Eligibility Details & Subject Information

The eligibility for the UPPSC GIC Lecturer post is subject-specific. Candidates must meet the following general educational requirements:
1. Educational Qualification: A Post Graduate (Master’s Degree) in the concerned subject from a recognized University established by law in India is mandatory. 2. Professional Qualification: Candidates must possess a B.Ed, Special B.Ed, or M.Ed degree as specified for the particular teaching category. Knowledge of reading and writing in both Hindi and English is expected. 3. Subject Specifics: For subjects like Sociology, Economics, Civics, English, History, Hindi, and Sanskrit, the Master’s degree must be in the exact same discipline. |
Exam Pattern & Syllabus
Detailed Exam Pattern
- Preliminary Examination: The screening test consists of General Studies and the Optional Subject. It is objective in nature.
- Main Examination: Candidates who clear the Prelims will appear for the Mains, which includes General Hindi/Essay and a Subject-specific conventional paper.
- Total Marks: Prelims are usually for 300 marks, while Mains carry a separate weightage including 100 marks for Hindi and 300 for the subject.
- Negative Marking: There is a penalty of 1/3 (0.33) marks for incorrect answers in the objective Preliminary exam.
- Language Proficiency: High standard of written Hindi is required for the Essay and Hindi paper in the Mains.
- General Knowledge: Indian History, National Movement, Geography, Constitution, Agriculture, and Current Affairs.
- Technical Subject: Post-graduate level curriculum of the specific subject opted for by the candidate.
- Reasoning: General Mental Ability and Elementary Mathematics up to 10th standard.
- UP Special: Specific knowledge regarding the culture, education, and social practices of Uttar Pradesh.
Selection Process
- Preliminary Exam (Screening): An objective test to shortlist candidates based on merit.
- Main Examination (Written): A descriptive examination for final merit calculation.

Salary / Pay Scale Details
GIC Lecturers are Gazetted officers in the Uttar Pradesh state service.
1. Monthly Salary Range: The pay scale for UPPSC GIC Lecturer is #9,300 – #34,800 with a Grade Pay of #4,800. As per the 7th Pay Commission, this falls under Pay Level 8 (#47,600 – #1,51,100).
2. In-Hand Salary: A newly appointed lecturer can expect a gross monthly salary ranging from #65,000 to #72,000 depending on the city allowances.
3. Allowances and benefits:
